Grandparents’ Day

Grandparents’ Day at the Ice Age Centre – 14 September
Grandparents’ Day is an official day of celebration in Estonia, held on the second Sunday of September. It is a family-centred day that values intergenerational connections and honours the role of grandparents in society.
Archaeologists and researchers have pointed out that one of the greatest leaps in human development occurred in the Stone Age, when life expectancy increased and grandparents had the chance to pass on their knowledge to grandchildren. This profoundly changed communities – knowledge, skills, and stories were now carried across three generations. Grandparents became those who shared experiences, preserved traditions, and helped younger generations to better understand the world.
On 14 September, we are celebrating Grandparents’ Day at the Ice Age Centre. On this special day, we offer free boat trips on Lake Saadjärv for all visitors. Three trips will take place during the day, and pre-registration is required: info@jaaaeg.ee / +372 5911 3318.
The Ice Age Centre Café will also be offering a special pancake selection in addition to the regular menu and buffet!
Why visit the Ice Age Centre?
The Ice Age Centre is an experience centre located on the shores of Lake Saadjärv in Tartu County, where visitors can embark on a journey through 13.7 billion years of natural and climate history – from the Ice Ages to the present day and into the future. Our exhibition combines scientific knowledge with playfulness and discovery for the whole family. Children can enjoy the Play Cave and Lemming Lemps’ Treasure Hunt, while everyone can explore interactive exhibits, take a boat trip, and enjoy delicious meals at the Ice Age Centre Café.
Give your grandparents a truly special day – one that combines knowledge, nature, and the joy of being together!
