“Look into my Ice” follow-up

The Ice Age Centre Brings Climate Change into Focus

In September, the Ice Age Centre opened a follow-up exhibition titled “Look into my Ice” which focuses on climate change and the melting of polar ice. This exhibition continues the project previously held at Tartu Art House, which brought together international artists whose work addresses the global melting of ice and its impact on the world.

The project manager of the exhibition, Helene Bosecker, emphasizes that the goal is to raise awareness of the effects of ice melting both in Estonia and globally: “We are the last generation with the chance to stop irreversible changes. We must understand that the responsibility is shared and global.”

The exhibition aims to inspire people to adopt more environmentally sustainable behaviors and to pay greater attention to the surrounding nature. One of the most intriguing pieces is Ronald Anzenberger’s fragment of polar glacier, which will likely only be visible on the opening day.

The curator of the exhibition is Liisi Kõuhkna, and the project is part of the Tartu 2024 European Capital of Culture program. The summer workshops associated with the exhibition and this follow-up exhibit have been organized in cooperation with the MTÜ Eesti-Saksa Kunstikoostöö and roam projects e.V. (Berlin, Germany).

Participating artists include: Ronald Anzenberger, Marjolijn Dijkman, Aquiles Jarrin & Irving Ramo, Marta Djourina, and Jaanika Peerna.

The Ice Age Centre façade also features a monumental artwork created by artist Marta Djourina as part of the same project. The work is titled “Ashhes of Ice”. The follow-up exhibition “Look into my Ice” will remain open until December.

The Ice Age Centre is a unique climate museum located amidst Ice Age landscapes, on the shores of Lake Saadjärv in Vooremaa. The centre is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am–5 pm, with interactive and multilingual exhibits spread across three floors, covering topics from the creation of the universe to modern-day climate change. The exhibitions are suitable for both adults and children, offering an engaging and educational experience for all.
