Camp instructor – Diana Timermane

Swimming skills gained in school find real-world use in Estonia.

Diana Timermane, a former student of the Jelgava Specialised Swimming School, now runs a company in Tartu – a city she proudly calls her home. Her business offers swimming lessons for all ages and levels.

As swimming lessons are part of the school curriculum both in Estonia and Latvia, it’s no surprise that around 90% of her clients at “Swim in Estonia” are adults.
“Some want to refine their swimming technique, some became more active during the pandemic to get out of the house and socialise. We also work with complete beginners – for instance, clients from Nepal, India, and Pakistan, where swimming isn’t as common or popular,” explains Diana.
“My goal is to promote swimming as a foundation for good health. It’s not just a sport – there’s water aerobics, hydrotherapy, swimming for joy – all of which are essential for well-being,” she adds.

Diana began swimming at the Jelgava Swimming School and later joined a competitive training group.
“I’ll always remember my coach Anželika Paegle and the school with warmth and a smile. The most valuable thing swimming gave me was discipline, which has helped me in all aspects of life,” says Diana, now a certified swim coach.

In addition to running her business and teaching swimming, Diana also works in an IT company. She practices winter swimming and competed at the Estonian Winter Swimming Festival 2020 on December 12.
She placed 2nd out of 11 in the 25m breaststroke (age group 20–30) with a time of 19.2 seconds. The winner’s time was 19.1 seconds.
